Digital x-rays are quickly becoming adopted by a large percentage of the dental industry. A digital x-ray allows us to take an image of a tooth or teeth and put it into an imaging program. Within this imaging software, there are a number of tools that will allow your doctor to take a very close look at the teeth and surrounding structures with amazing accuracy. Digital x-rays allow your doctor to identify problems much earlier compared to traditional x-rays which leads to more conservative dentistry.
As an additional benefit to the patient, the digital x-ray also provides significantly less radiation than a standard x-ray. This is due to the fact that the digital version of the x-ray is much more sensitive to this radiation and has been specifically designed with the patient in mind. When we adopted digital x-rays in 2011, we were able to decrease the amount of radiation produced by our x-ray heads by 75% per x-ray !
